Survival

I'm a overjoyed to report that survival mode is OVER!

My man is back from his European vacation (or educational experience as he calls it)- and I finally can take a big deep long breath.  It feels good.  The past two weeks went a little something like this.

Lillie and I tearfully dropped Daddy off at the airport over two weeks ago.  I drove away crying- and Little was crying too.  We got home, regrouped for dinner and still she was crying.  So, I decided to take her temperature- yup- 103.  Awesome.

Tylenol all night long (you guessed it- the stuff that was just recalled).  Sunday she seemed to get a bit better, so I decided we would hold off to go to the doctor until Monday.

Monday started my vacation.  A whole week of me and my babe.

Well, Monday I noticed Lillie had her two front teeth sneaking back into her mouth.  These were the teeth that she pushed up into her mouth during her recent fall.  Then her nose started to run, a cough followed and more crying and more sleepless nights and more Tylenol- until I found out on Thursday that it was recalled- then we switched to Advil.  And then TWO MORE teeth came down.  Four teeth up top in one week.

We toughed it out all week and made the most of our time together.  I assumed Lillie's "cold" would soon retreat.  We went to Wilmington to visit our sweet friend Liz and to Raleigh to visit with some other friends... and had a conversation about ear infections.

Friday night I just couldn't take it anymore.  I hadn't slept through the night since B left a week earlier.  Saturday morning we took the earliest doctor's appointment.  Lillie did in fact have one full blown raging ear infection and one "brewing" ear infection according to the doctor.  And then the guilt set-in.

How am I, as a mom, suppose to know when my child has an ear infection vs. just a bad cold?  Why don't they have something that we can use to look in there and check things out?  Brad, this is totally the company you should start.  Find someone to invent this- an at home ear infection detector.

Sunday rolled around and we celebrated Mother's day with my family.  My big bro and Kelsey took good care of us moms- Mimi and me.  And I was thankful to have someone else hold and love my sweet baby during her screaming.

It took a few days on antibiotics to get our legs underneath us and then I headed back to work on Monday.

Last week was a blur.  Lillie, work, Lillie, sleep- and then do it all over again.  I need to get involved in a ministry that helps single moms.  I just don't know how they hold it all together.

Saturday I helped host a baby shower for Liz and then my man returned just in time for Lillie to be 100% better.  Mimi gave us the greatest gift of all and kept Little on Saturday night so B and I could have some time before we hit the ground running this week.

Back to a life I'm more familiar with- one that includes a loving husband and a smiling babe.
