sunburn

I got sunburned.  For those of you who have spent time at the beach with me, this is rare.  Well, I should say, this use to be rare...

As a little girl, I think I was probably happiest in a bathing suit at the pool.  In college, I can recall one memorial day that I went to Wrightesville beach with Chambliss and in order to get a good (free) parking spot we got there in time to see the sunrise and left after it was dark.  No kidding.   We were happy girls.

Then, real life hit, I guess.  There is really no time to sit still for hours at the beach.  And that is beautiful to me.  Settle passed this along to me, and for some reason I have held it tight to my heart.  I just love it.

"Here is a sweet, fragrant mouth to kiss; here are two more feet to make music with their pattering about my nursery. Here is a soul to train for God; and the body in which it dwells is worth all it will cost, since it is the abode of a kingly tenant. I may see less of friends, but I have gained one dearer than them all, to whom, while I minister in Christ's name, I make a willing sacrifice of what little leisure for my own recreation my other darlings had left me. Yes, my precious baby, you are welcome to your mother's heart, welcome to her time, her strength, her health, her tenderest cares, to her lifelong prayers! Oh, how rich I am, how truly, how wondrously blest!" - Stepping Heavenward

Never the less, this weekend I sat for long enough to get sunburned.  It was wonderful.

Chambliss, Liz, Meg W. and me sat for hours in rocking chairs overlooking the ocean, just catching-up.  We talked about boys and babies- the past and the future- and laughed a ton.  We ate too much, walked too little and said too many things.  With those girls, it is always easy.  No fuss, no wondering if everyone is happy.  If I left this weekend with one word on my mind it would be content.
