Rain, a tow truck and potato soup for one.

Leaving work at five gives me no time to spare when racing to get Lillie by the designated pick-up time. Have I ever mentioned that if you are a 1 minute late to daycare you pay something like $50 on the spot? True story.
Well last Wednesday it was raining really, really hard.
I grabbed Lillie from daycare- soaked, because she had no rain coat. Then made our way home.
As I turned the corner in my neighborhood, I saw flashing lights and a tow truck blocking my driveway. With a police report neatly taped to my front door, and a car in the ditch of my yard (resting on our mailbox) I knew the evening was off to an interesting start.
The flashing lights, loud tow truck and pouring rain terrified Lillie, so we quickly ran down the street into our house. I stripped her soaking wet little body down and we started in on our evening routine. Wash hands, Lillie gets dinner, straight from the high chair to the bath...
I thought Brad would be home by this time- but no sign of him. So I went ahead and put the potatoes on so we could have soup at a somewhat reasonable dinner hour of 8 o'clock.
...then I took Lillie back to her room to read a few stories. Still no Brad. In the middle of Good Night Moon the smoke detector goes off. Awesome. Lillie produced crocodile tears before we made it to the kitchen where my pot was all but on fire.
Then I went into a hilarious dance of holding Lillie, feverishly fanning the smoke detector so that it would stop buzzing, running to the stove to salvage the potatoes only to have the smoke detector go off again. That went on for about 20 minutes. Literally.
Finally, I put Lillie in bed and got to my phone- which had also been buzzing away during the whole "situation".
Brad sent a text message that said he would be attending a "networking" event at the Brewery and wouldn't be home until late. Oh, and that he would make it up to me. (see post where I predicted this very thing would happen)
Potato soup for one and a side of it will take you about an hour to clean that stove top.
At least the soup was yummy- thanks Simmons!

Oh what a night!!!
I was chuckling over this tale! Was impressed that your soup looked so pretty and that you were also able to take pictures. hummmmmmmmm
