In our first home learned a ton about what is lovable and livable for our family in a home..
1. One story homes rock my socks off. I could do without stairs until all my children are over the age of 10.
2. Cork floors in the kitchen are a practical choice. At first, I wasn't too happy with the look. But I grew to adore these floors. Lillie dropped many a plate/glass on the floor and didn't break a single one. PLUS, it is easy on the legs and knees and it doesn't show dirt!
3. Hardwood floors are best kept in honey color because they hide dirt. Dark hardwoods (like our new apartment) maybe be trendy and beautiful, but are certainly impractical.
4. Never use white grout in a bathroom. Never.
5. Having at least one room with wall to wall carpet is really nice.
6. Storage in the bathroom is more important than you think. Storage in general is more important then you think.
7. There is no real need for upper cabinet doors in the kitchen.
8. Location makes a home for us. Being close to town, running trails and work ultimately made Windsor Circle perfect for us. Brad and I love a good deck and lots of outdoor space.
9. A neighborhood with sidewalks (+ a pool) would be nice for a growing family.
10. Having all the bedrooms close together is nice for little babes.
11. Have a shed and a garage so that you can park your mower in the shed and your car in the garage.
12. Heated bathroom floors are amazing.
13. Buying old is great but it is important to budget for repairs in your mortgage.
I'm sure the list could, and will, go on and on.. but this was just to name a few... so long sweet first home!
